Biography
Sam Levinson (born January 8, 1985) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer, the son of filmmaker Barry Levinson. He made his directing debut with Another Happy Day (2011), a family drama that won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and later wrote and directed the satirical thriller Assassination Nation (2018).
Levinson is best known as the creator and sole credited writer of HBO's Euphoria (2019–2026), a teen drama starring Zendaya that became one of the network's most-watched series and a significant cultural touchstone for its unflinching depiction of addiction and adolescence. He also wrote and directed the two-hander Malcolm & Marie (2021) and co-created the HBO series The Idol (2023) with the Weeknd.

Facts on this page are sourced and cited per Auteur Nova's editorial methodology. Hand-verified from Wikipedia, 2026-08-27. Updated 2026-08-27 (final verification round): Euphoria officially ended with its third season — HBO confirmed the ending in May 2026 and the series finale aired that June, with Levinson still the sole credited writer of all eight season-3 episodes per the season's episode table — so the biography's '(2019–present)' now reads '(2019–2026)'.
